EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/5 sec | f 36.0 | 45.0mm (35mm equivalent: 67.0mm) | ISO 100

There are many things going on with the this picture.

1. Some years ago, the RCA Corporation placed this large model of their mascot, Nipper, atop the Sarnoff Office building in the Albany North End, one of the more industrial sections of the city. After much debate and discussion, Nipper has remained a sort of backroom icon for Albany; not well known except for those who happen to drive down Broadway past the 'tracks.' So in this regard, the picture fits my current theme of messages and icons from the past.

2. I have trouble shooting this landmark. The place is surrounded by wires and busy roads, and massive buildings that block access. I had planned to post this entirely different shot in which I tried to use some of the wires to frame the dog. It does not excite me at all.

3. Like Janice at Frame of Mind, I was taken with Gary's (Talcum) recent post in which he zoomed while using a slow shutter speed. So I decided to try it here. I don't think was the best subject for this attempt, but I did it anyway and this is the result.

4. This is not the first time I have posted a picture of Nipper. In fact, this shot was the second post on Forgingahead way back on June 9, 2005 -- 7 months ago today!

For more information on Nipper the RCA dog, see this link. Surprisingly, the original Nipper lived in Bristol, England from 1884-1887. But I will spare you the detail ... read for yourself.

Addition January 10, 2006, evening.

I discovered a better site with more specific information about this particular Nipper.
