![]() Sorry, not a RAW conversion tonight, but I am still playing with that. Thanks to everyone who has given their thoughts on the matter. It seems that everyone who has gotten past their initial misgivings and problems with using RAW files has eventually found it the only way to go. And now that I have at least one tool that works, I suppose I will as well. I returned to Capital Park in Albany on Saturday morning. It is, as I have said before, a pretty amazing place for anyone who likes 'institutional government architecture.' The A. E. Smith Office building was constructed in 1926 in the Art Deco style of the day. I always equate this building with the Daily Planet Building of Superman comics fame. I read an interesting story about the construction of this building tonight: 'In 1926, one of Albany’s greatest engineering feats took place in Center Square. Buildings along Swan St. between Washington Avenue and State Street were condemned to make way for the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building. Rather than demolishing the 10 year-old Fort Frederick Apartments on State Street, the eight-story building was lifted off its foundation and rolled 350 feet south on railroad tracks. The building took five days to move, during which time the residents continued to live in the building (utilities were re-attached each evening). The building’s main entrance, which once faced Swan St., is now hidden in an alley on the east side of the building.' (I added the emphasis about the tenants living in the building while it was moved) I am going to have go in search of that ill-fated apartment building real soon and see if I can get to the original entrance. | |
