City Mirror Project -- Newpaper

The idea behind the City Mirror project is to illustrate some common item from our daily lives and to see how it is similar or different from city to city.

The newspaper is a medium in a state of transition. Challenged by radio and tv for many years, now they face the practically unstoppable force of the internet. As a source of 'news' newspapers are losing ground rapidly. In my own case, I found that I got the daily paper, the Albany Times Union, but seldom read it, focusing merely on a quick glance at the 'funny pages' (as my father used to call the Comics). Seemed a waste of money. So about two months ago, I canceled my daily subscription.

What is true for local papers however, is that they continue to be an excellent way to advertise local businesses. The Metroland is Albany's free 'alternative' newspaper, filled with information about the local art scene, politics, and 'what's going on.'

As I perused this week's edition, I wondered what was meant by 'genetic enhancement.' Poor blighter, he appears to be genetically inclined to having too much body hair for today's women. So I wonder, can they enhance his genetic code so that he looses that unsightly chest hair? (and I wonder, whatever happened to sayings like, 'that'll make you grow hair on your chest?' -- seems not that long ago when having chest hair ws a sign of virility and attractivness).

WOW Award

I went on a hunt tonight, bouncing from site to site, hitting dead ends and backtracking through many a worthy picture, then landing at Gary's site Mystery Me where I was stopped in my tracks by his picture titled South towards Souter. I like that this shot, in addition to be stunningly beautiful, represents a long term study of this location.
