More Fake DOF. I tried a slightly different technique here and think that I have mastered the problem with feathering that flawed my earlier attempt. This is getting real close to the effect I am looking for. Now I need to get the perfect subject to really make it shine!

Soapbox!

Since I started forgingahead I have wondered about the role of 'voting' in Photoblog.org. I never asked for votes, but I have maintained a link on my page since day one. In recent months, forgingahead has gone from a few unique hits per day to well over a hundred unique hits per day and has increased from an average of about 3 or 4 comments per day to an average of between 15 and 20 comments per day. I have not pursued the votes because Brandon has been promising that the system would change 'real soon now.' Well the change is about to happen and many of you have been using the new system of 'bookmarks' to identify your favorite sites. But once again, forgingahead seems lost in the shuffle. I know I should be content with what I achieve on my own, but part of my ego wonders what I should be doing to have more of you bookmark forgingahead. Do I have to post better pictures? Do I have to ask for your support (you can go to there now if you feel like it)? Should I be content to be an 'also ran?'

Some of you will recall how I answered you when you asked for my vote on the old system. I said, 'don't worry about it.' I told you, 'if you post good pictures, you will get support.' I took the position, 'who cares?' But as this new bookmark system comes online, it look about the same as the old system to me and in fact I guess I care. There is still a 'Hot Photoblog' section that looks a lot like the 'Top 100' and is dominated by the biggies. There seems little opportunity for new sites to make an impact short of crass commercialism.

So for a while, I am going to try that route. Please, if you enjoy forgingahead, bookmark it! Thank you very much.
