EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/800 sec | f 5.6 | 70.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105.0mm) | ISO 100

Many thanks to all who offered there good wishes yesterday. It has really meant a lot to me to have such a supportive group of people cheering me on from the sidelines! Now we are onto Year 2!

This is a view of one of my favorite parts of Virginia. This rural scene is located on the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge, with the eastern face of Old Rag Mountain -- an outlier if the Blue Ridge -- facing the picture. I have been telling myself for years that I will hike this mountain but something always seems to get in the way. I have conducted archaeological studies on the western side of the mountain. Had I followed through on my PhD dissertation, it was to have included additional study of the lowland Piedmont areas seen in the foreground. But, life took control and I never did that dissertation.
