EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/50 sec | f 5.6 | 45.0mm (35mm equivalent: 67.0mm) | ISO 100

I have really not had much opportunity to take pictures recently. I am, however, at liberty now to reveal my big secret from a couple of weeks ago. This is of interest primarily to those who have followed my efforts here at forgingahead, and even moreso to those who know me personally and something of the roller coaster ride my life has been for the last six years. A year ago, my future at my current place of employment was 'iffy' at best, and more likely on its last few months.

How much difference a year can make! It took me awhile to get all the pieces into place, but I did succeed and topped it all off by writing a grant proposal in August for a 'long shot' project. A couple of weeks ago, I got a call informing me that my proposal was deemed to be the 'most responsive' and was selected for funding. What follows is an excerpt from a press release being issued by the federal agency funding the work:

'The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has launched a 2-year project to demonstrate a thermal imaging inspection system (TIIS) that leverages state-of-the-art thermal imagery technology, integrated with signature recognition software, in order to provide the capability to identify, in real time, faults and impending failures in tires, brakes, and bearings mounted on large trucks and motor coaches. FMCSA’s Technology Division has awarded a 2-year research grant to International Electronic Machines Corporation (Albany, NY) for $1.4 million to conduct the TIIS project as directed by Congress under Section 5513(a) of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) Act of 2005. '

I guess all I can say is that 'forgingahead' is more than a word to me...it is really a philosophy.
