![]() Some of my fondest memories from my college days at William & Mary were of warm spring days in the 'Sunken Gardens.' One particular memory stems from a visit to campus by the poet Allen Ginsberg. Allen became close friends with one of my friends and often came to visit. One warm spring day a group of us gathered in the gardens where Ginsberg regaled us with his poetry for a while. Then, out of nowhere, someone crossed the gardens playing a bag pipe! Allen stopped him and asked for instruction on how to play and soon he was piping up a storm. This picture was taken last week from the western end of the gardens looking back toward the back side of the Wren Building. I received word from the school alumni association that next Friday, Queen Elizabeth will tour the campus after her morning in Jamestown and will ring the bell in the cupola I pictured a few days ago. | |
