I am back. First things first. Today is forgingahead's SECOND anniversary! The first year was very demanding, but the second year seemed to just slide right by. I no longer bust my butt trying to post every day, though for the most part I have. I don't get out for shooting as often as I should and tend to rely a bit too much on my archives. Second. As I have mentioned here recently, I have been looking back to film. I bought a Yashica Electro 35 on eBay for an obscenely low price. The camera, while fully automatic (aperture priority), has a wonderfully fast f1.7 lens. The camera arrived on Thursday and I loaded it up with some Ilford Delta 400 and have been doing a little shooting with it. It takes a while to remember about focusing with the split image rangefinder and to advance the film to cock the shutter. I have my tanks and chemicals lined up, have practiced loading the film, so soon I should re-enter that old part of my life when I processed my own stuff. I am not looking for printing -- yet... ;-). I'll scan the film on my Epson 3170 until I find it is inadeqaute for my needs. Third. I was able to revive my laptop but unfortunately lost about two weeks worth of photos to a corrupt backup that happened when Windows crashed while writing that file. Sad, but not the end of the world. After all, my livelihood does not depend upon photography. Anyway, I saw the writing on the wall. I had been fighting for hard drive space on the laptop for too long, so I sprung for a new desktop system with much more real estate in terms of RAM, hard drive space, and monitor. The new tool arrived yesterday and I spent last night moving files from the laptop, configuring Firefox and Thunderbird, loading various software, and generally getting things ready to go again. I am pretty sure that I am going to spring for a copy of Lightroom so I can get myself organized and improve my work flow. Anyone have any opinions on it. Tom Marlow out in Chicago put the bug in my ear while I was there for the NAP meetup. Think I will download the trial version soon. Lots of travel this coming week. I will be in DC on Monday then down to northeast Tennessee on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll see what sort of pics I can come up with. Glad to be back!
