![]() Today Albany was one of the first venues on the 40th Anniversary Tour for the Summer of Love. Quicksilver Messenger Service opened for Jefferson Starship. Familiar faces from the Starship include Marty Balin (center stage with hands outreached) and Paul Kantner (far left, in t-shirt with the star), founding members of Jefferson Airplane way back in 1965, the iconic San Francisco Band that helped define the original Summer of Love back in 1967. The crowd tonight included lots of aging hippies (a surprising number of whom still look like hippies!) and lots of younger folks who probably have heard the music before (lots of classics were played) but who had no real idea who these old farts were. This was a great FREE concert that was part of Albany's annual Alive at Five concert series. Maybe the concert was free, but the tour t-shirts costs $30!! I did not buy one. On an administrative note...yesterday's post was Number 700 on forgingahead, making this one #701! For whatever that is worth. | |
