Erie Canal Lock Detail

Taken many months ago with my Dad's old Welta Weltax on outdated Ilford Pan F 50 film. Intended as a detail of the construction of one of the locks along the old 19th century Erie Canal.

Some of you may recall this shot I posted way back in July of 2006. At the time I indicated that I was not at liberty to divulge further information. I thought I would share a bit of information now, considering that NASA has deemed the work sufficient to give me (and a few others) a Certificate of Recognition (see below) for our work. The skeptic in me points out that even though NASA awarded us this 'booby prize' for the invention, they did NOT come forth with additional funds to support the actual development of the concept. Thankfully, we have had some external funding to allow us to begin developing a real prototype for this unique 360-degree (azimuth) camera.

To make the record clear, because NASA seems a bit confused, the actual invention was not mine. My company now holds a US Patent for this technology, but alas, my name is not on the patent. NASA funded a bit of extended R&D on the design, and I was program manager for that effort. Our actual patent application had been submitted before the NASA project began.

Here's the Certicate I just got from NASA:

NASA Certificate
