Brick Chimney
EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/60 sec | f 22.0 | 28.0mm (35mm equivalent: 42.0mm) | ISO 100

The City of Amsterdam NY, like many cities in the northeastern US, grew up around the reliable and plentiful water power. On both sides of the Chuctenunda River, which passes down from the bluffs to join the Mohawk River, mills grew during the 19th Century. Several years ago there were massive fires and I had come to the mistaken belief that few buildings were left. I was quite surprised to fine several massive factory building still standing. Many businesses, none approaching the magnitude of the earlier industry (Amsterdam was primarily known for its carpet mills) have taken up residence in these buildings.

I'm not sure what the story is behind this chimney. All I know for sure is that it has a LOT of bricks in it and I can't imagine the masonry skills required to build it so straight and tall.
