Cohoes Falls Panorama
EXIF: SONY DSLR-A700 | 1/500 sec | f 8.0 | 11.0mm (35mm equivalent: 16.0mm) | ISO 200

This is a B&W conversion that I did in Lightroom then added a masked level adjustment layer in PS.

There was a a lot of water going over the falls last weekend. Cohoes Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the United States, lying near the point where the Mohawk River joins the Hudson River. Unfortunately, in the summer most of the water from the river is diverted to the Erie Barge Canal and only a trickle passes over this precipice.

The body of water in the foreground is a head race for a hydroelectric power plant that is just out of frame to the right. I was at our City Hall last week and found plans for a major renovation of this area to make it more accessible to people who want a closer look at the falls. I understand it will be open by later this year. I think it will be a very popular place.

I am amazed at how many people in the area have never even seen this waterfall. I lived in the area for nearly 15 years before I made the 10 minute trip to see it.
