Canal Street Marquee

There are a number of old theaters on Canal Street in New Orleans, near the hotel where I stayed. I don't know their history, but they are all in state of disrepair some of which is attributed to Hurricane Katrina. This one, the Saenger, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and, if I understand what I read on line correctly, was still open for business at least up until Katrina. I saw plenty of indications that work is going on to restore the building. Apparently it was flooded pretty extensively during Katrina, right up to the level of the stage inside. From pictures I found online, this was certainly a grand theater when it opened in 1927.
