I found a local nature preserve that I had not visited yet and set off along the still snow-covered trail. It was better walking on the snow as the ground everywhere was deep with mud. Which reminded me that the next couple of months are often referred to up in the Northeast as 'mud season.' I don't recall the equivalent from my youthful days in the south, so it must be a unique phenomenon related to deep snows and long winters!
