![]() I got home last night around midnight. I have not had time to process any of the pictures taken during the trip (most were, unfortunately, work related). One distinct highlight of the trip was a visit with my mother to the O. Wilson Link Museum in Roanoke Virginia. Wilson, a commercial photographer from the middle of the 20th Century did a series of truly incredible photographs of the end of the steam days in rail travel, focusing on the Norfolk & Western Railroad. If you are ever passing near to Roanoke, I HIGHLY encourage you to set aside a few hours (yes, HOURS) to visit this museum. For anyone who likes to follow Strobist, you will be totally amazed at Link's use of flash setups to 'sculpt with light.' Some of the set ups took him days to arrange and had to be right the first time. In the age before radio poppers, he ran up to a mile of wire to connect all the flash units and sometimes used hundreds of flash bulbs on a single shot. I was in awe of this guy's work! (And it appears there is no Wikipedia entry for him...) | |
