Boot Salesman at Flea Market

On my way back north from my Mother's house, I stopped at a bunch of Flea Markets. A good flea market can provide a glimpse into another way of life. This was the largest of those I stopped at. The Shenandoah Valley Flea Market between Front Royal Virginia and Winchester Virginia is open year round and includes both inside and outside vendors. On the day I was there only about half of th tables were being used. I was surprised by the large number of farmers that use this as an alternative to a 'Farmer's Market.' Prices on farm fresh produce were really, really low -- I bought a melon for a $1 that at home would have cost me 3 or 4 and it was better too. Alas, I have not found a similar phenomenon up this way. Here the farm stands often sell produce imported from South America and California and the prices are no better -- actually often higher -- than the supermarket.

This guy was selling old, used boots. Damned if I can figure out why anyone would want them. But I suppose if you can't afford new shoes, these would be just fine!

Pic of the Day:
I return to one of my regular stops for today's Pic of the Day, Mikes Right Brain.
