At Mariner's Museum

There I am with my old Yashica rangefinder. I believe this was a time when we went down to the Williamsburg vicinity so I could investigate my intended academic pursuit of marine biology. I had gone for a meeting at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, where I made a snap decision. I spent several hours with a scientist who was spending his life study the mitochondria of oysters in an attempt to understand the declining populations in the Chesapeake Bay. I remember asking him how often he went on exploratory voyages, to which he replied something like, 'Oh, the field techs do that, I am too busy to be bothered.' Hmmm. My 17 year old sense of adventure was crushed.

I entered college the next year with plans of entering politics. Kids can be so mixed up.
