![]() You may wonder, how did my Father achieve those accolades for talking to people around the world. The answer was this contraption. This was my father's 2-element quad antenna, tuned for 10, 15, and 20 meter bands, which in the early 60's were the best frequencies for making those long distance (or, in ham lingo, DX) connections. It all so much easier today. We all have visitors to our sites from all over the planet, and we think little of it. But my Dad worked hard for the few minutes of human connection he achieved with this massive antenna. Yes, that is me clinging the ladder. I didn't care much for heights (still don't) and was never comfortable near the top of any ladder. The antenna was in the process of being installed when this picture was taken. I think we were waiting for the crew of fellow engineers to arrive to help my father raise it to the rotor mounted on the top of the pole. It was then hoisted another twenty feet to it final position 40 feet over our home.
